Arts Festival One Act Plays

The WAYFARERS DRAMA GROUP, in association with the Weston-super-Mare Arts Festival, will be performing the world premiere of 3 one-act plays, written by local writers, at the Theatre-in-the-Hut, Milton Avenue next month.

The one-act plays were selected from 50 entries for the 2006 Arts Festival 'Wordplay' competition, and were chosen to be performed by an experienced panelClick Here to Visit The Weston Arts Festival Site of Judges.

Curtain up for the world premieres will be on Friday 4 & Saturday 5 May @ 7.45pm (including a 2.30pm matinee performance on the Saturday). Tickets are £7.00 each, and available from Jackie Holloway on 01934 515778.

'Parish Politics' directed by Barbara Gardiner, is a morality play. A young girl is taken in by a farmer and his wife and gives birth. Will the farmer's wife take the baby and pass it off as her own or will the girl keep it? Will a murderer be exposed or be allowed to flee?

'Nothing But the Truth' is a mystery directed by Janet Williams. Three characters shed light, in monologue style, on a murder and execution of a case from many years ago. We meet a retired detective, the housekeeper and the widow and as they remember details surrounding the case, as the truth slowly emerges.

'Upstairs Dot Com' is a modern comedy directed by Brian Pike, and presents a humorous look at the generation gap. George Haddon, a retired bank manager, seeks peace and quiet to enjoy his crossword; his wife Chrissie is highly fashion conscious and very bored; and their 32 year old son still lives at home, rarely ventures out of his bedroom and lives on a daily ration of EBAY!

All is not well in the Haddon household when suddenly a friend of their son's arrives, a very attractive young lady who announces she is pregnant.... !!

"The Wayfarers have enjoyed the challenge of producing these new plays. They are very different to one another and it is always exciting to find new writers willing to take on the challenge of writing for the stage," says chairman Janet Williams.

The performances are Friday 4th & Saturday 5th May @ 7.45pm (including a 2.30pm matinee performance on the Saturday). Tickets are £7.00 each, and available from Jackie Holloway on 01934 515778.
